In late 2025 and early 2026, silver in China traded at a significant premium on the SHFE compared to London prices, with a gap reaching $14–$17 per ounce. Driven by demand and limited investment options, the UBS SDIC Silver Futures Fund LOF, the only silver ETF in China, saw its price reach an equivalent of up to $167 per ounce through fund units. This led to the fund's share price on the exchange decoupling from the actual value of silver in its portfolio, resulting in a premium ranging from 36% to 60%. Regulatory measures were implemented, including restricting new subscriptions to 100 yuan and eventually halting them, which caused the fund's shares to drop by the daily limit despite the continued rise in silver prices.
